Tucson Padres News Release

The Tucson Padres entered the ninth inning leading by four runs Tuesday when the Tacoma Rainiers scored five times to win the first matchup between the two teams, 10-9. Tacoma had five singles and a walk in the rally. Shawn Kelly retired the Padres in the ninth inning without a baserunner reaching.

Former Tucson catcher Guillermo Quiroz was batting for Tacoma with the bases loaded in the ninth, with the Padres leading by one run. Quiroz hit a broken-bat ground ball to second baseman Amadeo Zazueta, who tried to tag Johan Limonta. When Limonta successfully dodged the tag, Zazueta threw to first base for one out and the tying run came in to score. A few pitches later Brad Brach's slider eluded Yasmani Grandal and the eventual winning run scored on the wild pitch.

Carlos Quentin went 3-for-4 with a three run home run for Tucson in his first regular season game of 2012. Quentin is with the Tucson Padres on an injury rehab assignment after having knee surgery in March. James Darnell hit his third home run of the year one pitch after Quentin's homer, giving the Padres their first set of back-to-back home runs of the season. Daniel Robertson hit three singles in the loss for the T-Pads.

Next Game: Wednesday, 7:05 pm - Tacoma RHP Jarrett Grube (0-1, 9.64) vs. Tucson RHP Josh Geer (2-3, 7.30). One-dollar hot dogs starting at 6:00 pm. Game coverage begins at 6:45 pm on Tejano 1600 AM.
