Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Nashville, TN - Corey Patterson doubled in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning as Nashville came back to beat Omaha, 5-4, Wednesday afternoon in the third of a four-game set at Greer Stadium. The Storm Chasers lost their season-high fourth consecutive game to dip to 17-10 overall and 2-5 on the current road trip, with four of the defeats by a single run and three of them by the same 5-4 score.
Francisely Bueno, who retired Taylor Green with two runners on to end the 10th, set down the first two batters of the 11th before Eric Farris legged out an infield hit. Patterson followed by driving a ball into the gap in right-center field that chased home the speedy Farris with the decisive run, as the Storm Chasers suffered their third walk-off loss in the last four games.
The Storm Chasers sprinted to a 3-0 lead in the first inning courtesy of Johnny Giavotella's two-run home run and a David Lough run-scoring single that extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Nashville starter Brian Baker struck out Jamie Romak with the bases loaded to end the frame but needed 46 pitches to do so.
The right-hander was removed with two runners on and two out in the third and relieved by Donovan Hand, who needed only one pitch to squash the rally. Baker was tagged for three runs on eight hits and has allowed a hit to 13 of the 23 Omaha batters he has faced this season.
Giavotella singled home Jason Bourgeois with one out in the sixth to extend the visitors advantage to 4-0 and end the afternoon for Hand, who was charged with a run on two hits and a pair of free passes over 2 2/3 innings. From there, the tandem of Daniel Meadows and Johnnie Lowe allowed only two singles and did not permit a runner to advance past second base.
Everett Teaford permitted three hits, walked two and fanned four over 5 2/3 shutout innings in his first start of the season for Omaha before he reached his pitch count and was lifted from the game. Sean O'Sullivan took over and gave up a two-out, two-run double to Patterson in the seventh that sliced the lead to 4-2. Brooks Conrad belted a two-run, opposite field homer, his third of the series and fourth of the year against Omaha, off Roman Colon in the eighth to get the game even at four.
The series concludes Thursday night with Omaha right-hander Vin Mazzaro making the start against Nashville righty Mike Fiers. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on AM 1180 and online at omahastormchasers.com.
