Sacramento River Cats News Release
West Sacramento, Calif. - Josh Donaldson's second consecutive three-hit night helped the Sacramento River Cats defeat the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Raley Field Wednesday afternoon, 8-3.
Sacramento took the lead early and never trailed, scoring two in the bottom of the first. Donaldson finished 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and his third home run since being optioned by Oakland on April 23. Adam Rosales and Chris Carter had two hits apiece and outfielder Collin Cowgill finished 1-for-5 with two RBIs.
The win clinches at least a series-split for the River Cats, preserving the team's undefeated streak to begin the year. In their six previous series, the Cats have won four and split two.
River Cats starting pitcher Travis Banwart (3-1) gave up two earned runs in 6.0 innings pitched for the win, lowering his ERA to 5.67 on the year.
Sky Sox starter Tyler Chatwood was charged with the loss, exiting after 2.1 innings, having given up two runs and three walks.
Donaldson's three-hit effort raises his batting average to .474 on the year. The infielder has recorded a hit in each of the five games he's played with Sacramento this season, with three home runs and 9 RBIs. Michael Taylor connected on his 13th double of the season and is now hitting .347 on the year.
The River Cats and Sky Sox return to Raley Field for the series finale tomorrow evening on Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday. Sacramento RHP Bruce Billings (1-1, 4.61) will face Colorado Springs RHP Carlos Torres (2-1, 2.88) at 7:05 p.m.
