Islanders Sign Toews to Entry-Level Deal

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The New York Islanders announced today that defenseman Devon Toews has agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract. Toews will join the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League on an Amateur Tryout contract for the remainder of the 2015-16 season.

Toews, 22, helped lead the Quinnipiac University Bobcats to the National Championship game this season in his third year with the team. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound defenseman recorded career highs in goals (7), assists (23) and points (30) in 40 games this season. In 108 career Collegiate games, Toews totaled 67 points (12goals, 55 assists).

Selected by the Islanders in the fourth round (108 th overall) in 2014, Toews played for the Surrey Eagles in the British Columbia Hockey League for two seasons before joining the collegiate ranks. The Abbotsford, B.C. native won the BCHL Championship in 2013 and was named to the BCHL First All-Star Team.
