Rockford is coming in to tonight's contest after a big road win in Iowa. The win in combination with Grand Rapids loss to Lake Erie both on Wednesday night, bumped the IceHogs from fourth place in the division to tied for third with the Griffins.
The Griffins are coming in to the matchup after dropping three-straight games, one of which includes a 3-0 shutout at the hands of the Wild. However, Grand Rapids holds the edge in the season series against Rockford with a record of 5-2-0-0.
Tied for third in the Central Division, tonight's contest could determine who will take the third seed in the Calder Cup Playoffs. A regulation win by Grand Rapids would lock the Griffins into the third spot, while the IceHogs would have to win tonight in regulation combined with a point in tomorrow's game or a Grand Rapids loss on Saturday to claim the spot due to the Griffins holding the tiebreaker.
Signing with the team in the midst of their five-game road trip, forward Tyler Motte and defenseman Calle Dahlstrom will be making their home debut. Motte, a rookie out of the University of Michigan, has already notched three points for the IceHogs in a matching three games. He scored his first professional goal last Sunday in Manitoba and later had his first assist during the same game.
Another fresh face making their appearance tonight is forward Dennis Rasmussen. Since being recalled by the Chicago Blackhawks in December, this will be Rasmussen's first time skating on BMO ice since Nov. 27 in a 3-1 win over the Chicago Wolves. The Swedish forward accumulated nine points (4g-5a) with the Blackhawks and 14 points (7g-7a) during his stint in Rockford in the first part of the season.
Next Home Game: Saturday, April 16 vs. Milwaukee Admirals at 7 p.m. The first 2,500 fans will receive an IceHogs team photo courtesy of Proforma. In honor of the last regular season home game, it's Fan Appreciation Night at the BMO! Random fans will be given prizes at every whistle.
