Maintaining Momentum
Inter Miami CF will play on the road against Toronto FC on Tuesday, Sept. 14 following the team's 1-0 victory at home against the Columbus Crew. Striker Gonzalo Higuaín scored his ninth goal of the campaign against Columbus, remaining the team's top scorer this season, and earned Heineken Man of the Match honors due to his influential performance.
Inter Miami has gone unbeaten in its last five matches and earned three clean sheets in a row, drawing on the road against Orlando City, defeating FC Cincinnati 0-1 at TQL Stadium, and winning 1-0ÃÂ home against Columbus. Additionally, the Herons only suffered one loss during the months of August and September.

Rematch vs. Toronto
Tuesday's match at BMO Field will be the second time the teams encounter each other in the 2021 regular season. The last fixture that was played between the two teams led to a 3-1 victory at home for Inter Miami. The win in late August contributed to the team's unbeaten run of five.
Familiar Faces
The fixture against Toronto FC could feature reunions between former teammates and rivals for players of both sides. Midfielder Jay Chapman played for Toronto FC for four years from 2015 to 2019,ÃÂ as well as for the team's USL side Toronto FC II in 2017. Chapman made 79 appearances with Toronto where he won the MLS Cup, Supporter's Shield, and three Canadian Championships.ÃÂ
Inter Miami defender/midfielder Brek Shea was teammates with several Toronto FC players while representing the United States. Shea racked up 34 caps with the national team and played six matches alongside defender Omar González. These matches included four friendlies, a World Cup Qualifier match against Mexico in 2013, and the 2013 Gold Cup Final against Panama. Shea also played 15 matches with Toronto FC captain Michael Bradley on the international side. In two of the fifteen matches Shea scored two goals for the American side. Lastly, Shea might run into forward Jozy Altidore once again. The two players featured in 19 games together for the USMNT.
Goalkeeper John McCarthy may also encounter some familiar rivals on Tuesday. McCarthy opposed left-back Kemar Lawrence and the New York Red Bulls in Round 16 of the 2017 U.S. Open Cup during his stint at Philadelphia Union. McCarthy also faced right back Richie Laryea in 2017 while playing for Philadelphia's USL side Bethlehem Steel and Laryea played for Orlando City B.ÃÂ
Lastly, Inter Miami captain Gregore might clash against Venezuelan left winger Yeferson Soteldo once again. Soteldo and Gregore rivaled each other in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in Brazil between 2019 and 2020 before playing in the MLS. They opposed each other on two occasions in Brazil's top tier when Soteldo represented Santos FC and Gregore played for the EC Bahia side.
Toronto's Record in 2021
Toronto FC has not won a game since July 24, 2021, when it defeated the Chicago Fire. In the month of August, Toronto FC earned a 1-1 draw with Nashville and a 2-2 draw with New York City FC and suffered five losses. The Canadian side lost their most recent match up against FC Cincinnati 2-0 on Sept. 11. So far in 2021, Toronto has recorded three wins, six draws and 14 losses, earning a total of 15 points.
