Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Indianapolis Indians ambushed starter Tommy Milone for six runs over the first two innings and coasted to a 12-3 win over the Louisville Bats Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
Four different Tribe batters produced multi-hit efforts in the contest and each of the starting nine batters reached safely as part of the offensive outburst.
Hunter Owen and John Nogowski sparked the onslaught with back-to-back RBI knocks in the first frame. Tucupita Marcano and Jared Oliva followed suit in the top of the second with consecutive run-scoring hits and Chris Sharpe doubled home two additional runs in the top of the third. Nogowski then helped Indy bring across a run for the fourth straight inning with a grounder into left that scored Phillip Evans and put the Indians up 7-1.
Michael De Leon plated a run for the Bats with an RBI double in the second frame that bounced off the bottom of the center-field wall. The Bats were otherwise held in check by starter James Marvel, who worked 6.0 innings with a lone run and seven strikeouts.
Jan Hernandez went deep off the Tribe's bullpen with a two-run shot in the ninth inning.
Despite the 12 runs allowed, Bats pitching combined to strike out a season high-tying 15 batters in the loss.
Indianapolis and Louisville will continue their six-game series Saturday at 1 p.m. at Louisville Slugger Field. RHP Michael Mariot (5-4, 3.89) is set to make the start for the Bats against RHP Miguel Yajure (1-3, 3.58).
