MOOSIC, Pa. - A dominant pitching performance led the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to a 3-1 victory over the Rochester Red Wings on Friday night at PNC Field.
Deivi Garcia (3-7) turned in a strong start, allowing only one run on four hits in 5.0 innings of work. The right-hander struck out six and walked only two, while earning his first win since July 20.
The RailRiders took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Donny Sands bounced a single into left field off Cade Cavalli to score Estevan Florial. Rochester tied the game with a run in the top of the fourth against Garcia.
In the bottom of the fourth Greg Allen gave the RailRiders the lead with an RBI single to score Socrates Brito. He then stole second base and scored on a Sands single to extend the lead to 3-1. Sands finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and now has seven RBIs in his last four games.
Brooks Kriske struck out two in 2.0 hitless innings of relief in back of Garcia, and Ron Marinaccio threw a 1-2-3 eighth to hold the lead. Marinaccio has turned in seven consecutive scoreless appearances for the RailRiders, allowing only three hits and striking out 20 in 12.2 innings.
