Idaho Steelheads News Release
(Boise, ID) - The Ontario Reign connected for three power-play goals while silencing the Idaho man-advantage attack as the visitors upended the Steelheads, 5-0, Saturday night in front of 4,180 fans at CenturyLink Arena in Boise.
The victory stretches Ontario's unbeaten streak to six games while Idaho dropped its fourth consecutive contest.
The Reign netted three power-play tallies on eight chances while Idaho came up empty on seven power plays. After Bill Bagron gave Ontario an early one-goal lead, Kyle Kraemer scored on the power play late in the first and Steve Tarasuk tallied again on the man-advantage early in the second to give Ontario a 3-0 lead.
Idaho had chances with the puck around the Ontario crease several times, but Reign goaltender Chris Carrozzi kept the lead at three with several key saves. At the midway point of the second period, Derek LeBlanc came to the defense of Michael Neal and fired up the crowd with an entertaining fight against Kevin Estrada, with Estrada having to leave the game temporarily to receive treatment on a cut received during the tussle.
The Reign kept Idaho from capitalizing on the momentum, however, and added a fourth goal at 18:06 of the second from Francois Brisebois. Tristan King scored on the power play in the third period to set the final margin of 5-0 in favor of the visitors.
Carrozzi was a perfect 33-of-33 in net for Ontario to pick up the win as Idaho outshot an opponent for just the third time on the season (33-24). Jerry Kuhn surrendered three goals on 11 shots before head coach Hardy Sauter made a change in net in the second period. Rookie Thomas Speer stopped 11 of 13 over 36 minutes of relief netminding.
Idaho (15-16-3) is on the road for its next five games, starting next Friday and Saturday at Utah against the Grizzlies.
The team returns home on Tuesday, January 24, to host the Stockton Thunder. Tickets are available by calling the CenturyLink Arena box office (208.331.TIXS) or by logging on to www.idahosteelheads.com.
