Stewart Assigned to Jackals

The Elmira Jackals announced on Sunday that goaltender Brian Stewart has been assigned to the club by its AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

Stewart, a second-year pro, is 13-5-0-0 with the Jackals this season, posting a .913 save percentage and a 2.93 goals-against average. The Burnaby, British Columbia native went 3-0 last week and was a runner up for the ECHL's Goaltender of the Week title, an award he garnered earlier this season for the week of Nov. 28 - Dec. 4. Stewart won two more shootouts last week as well, improving his career record in shootouts to 10-0 (7-0 - ECHL, 3-0 - AHL). This is Stewart's sixth assignment to Elmira in 2011-2012.

Elmira also announced that it has placed goaltender Nick Niedert on waivers. With the Jackals this season, Niedert is 2-0-0-0 with a .904 save percentage and a 2.07 goals-against average.
