Chicago Wolves News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves surrendered a two-goal third-period lead en route to dropping a 4-3 overtime decision to the Rockford IceHogs at the Rockford MetroCentre Saturday night.
Forwards Jason Krog (G, A) and Darren Haydar (2A) notched multiple-points while Andrew Kozek and Nigel Dawes each scored for Chicago.
Rockford right wing Igor Makarov tallied the game-winning overtime goal on the power play with 47 seconds remaining in the extra frame. Center Ryan Potulny took a shot from the near circle, which Makarov redirected from the top of the crease past Wolves goaltender Drew MacIntyre.
Chicago (3-2-1-0) opened scoring on the power-play 1:45 into the game when Krog fired a slap shot from the far circle past a screened IceHogs netminder Hannu Toivonen.
The Wolves increased their lead to 2-0, at 14:32 of the middle frame. Center Andre Deveaux won a face-off back to defenseman Boris Valabik, who flung a shot from the point that was blocked by a Rockford defender. Kozek picked up the loose puck in the slot and flung it past Toivonen.
Rockford (4-3-0-0) cut the deficit to 2-1 when they potted a short-handed goal just over two minutes later. Right wing Ben Smith collected a loose puck in the slot and ripped a shot past MacIntyre, top shelf.
The Wolves regained their two goal cushion at 3:06 of the third period when Krog found a trailing Dawes on a three-on-two rush, who wristed a shot past Toivonen, top shelf.
Toivonen (1-2-0) kicked out 23 shots.
Rockford closed to within 3-2 when Rob Kilnkhammer redirected a Chris DiDomineco shot past MacIntyre at 5:04 of the final frame.
IceHogs defender Ivan Vishnevskiy evened things up with a five-on-three power-play tally at 11:51 of the third period when he blasted a one-timer from the near circle past MacIntyre.
MacIntyre (0-2-0) stopped 29 of 33 shots in regulation and overtime.
The Wolves host the Milwaukee Admirals in an Amtrak Rivalry game at the Allstate Arena Sunday at 3 p.m.
