Red Deer Rebels News Release
CRANBROOK, B.C. - With four games in the next five nights, the Red Deer Rebels were hoping to start things off on the right skate Tuesday against the Kootenay Ice. Instead, the dropped a 4-1 decision and now have lost three games in a row.
First Period
The Ice opened the scoring after a turnover at the Red Deer blue line when Sam Reinhart scored his 14th of the season midway through the period. The Rebels were kind of on their heels for a few minutes after the first goal. The Rebels survived one Ice powerplay, but were outshot 15-8.
Second period
The Ice increased their lead when Luke Philp came in front of Red Deer goaltender BOLTON POULIOT all the way from to left boards. Philp went upstairs for the 2-0 goal. The Rebels did have one powerplay, but were outshot in the period 12-9.
Third period
POULIOT made a huge - no, make that gigantic - glove grab of Philp in the first 10 seconds of the final frame. Kootenay had a few more really good chances in the next five minutes.
Finally, the Rebels strike: eight minutes into the period RHYSE DIENO let a one-timer go to slice the Ice lead to 2-1. The Rebels, sensing urgency, outshot the Ice 10-4 in the first six minutes. But, then with a tad over 14 minutes in, Philp scored his second of the night - on the powerplay - to restore their two-goal lead. TYSON NESS had a really good chance with almost a minute gone before Jeff Hubic scored an empty net goal at 19:47. The Rebels were outshot 38-30 over 60 minutes.
