Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Pensacola Ice Pilots continue a long four-game road trip tonight (Friday) when they face the Charlotte Checkers at Bobcat Arena.

It's only the second appearance for the Blue and Gold in Charlotte this season. In the only other meeting, Mike Wirll scored one of the team's more spectacular goals of the season in an Ice Pilots 4-2 win over the Checkers.

The Ice Pilots were beaten 6-3 by the Gwinnett Gladiators last night in Georgia. Mike Wirll, Sergei Ogorodnikov and John Hecimovic were the goaltenders for Pensacola, while David Wrigley chipped in two assists.

The Ice Pilots were minus Dwayne Hay due to illness, and two other regulars due to injury. Later in the game they were without the services of defenseman Jesse Baraniuk and Derrick Byfuglien due to an injury and illness.

The Checkers have won three straight on home ice with their latest a 5-2 triumph over the Columbia Inferno on Thursday night. Charlotte snapped a 2-2 tie with three goals in the third period.
