Ice Dogs Take Bite Out Of Grizzlies, 6-2

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (15-15-4) won decisively Sunday night, with a 6-2 drubbing of the Utah Grizzlies (20-13-2). It was their first win in the ECHL versus their old IHL rival, and got them back to .500 and a tie for second in the Pacific Division standings.

After a scoreless first period, Long Beach got the scoring started at 2:59 of the second period when Steeve Villeneuve put it in from Justin Aikins and Mac Faulkner. Then 59 seconds later, Sean McAslan scored from Cory Urquhart. At 10:27, Faulkner gave the Ice Dogs a 3-0 lead from Blake Robson and Justin Aikins. McAslan scored his second of the game at 15:29 from Ash Goldie and David Walker, before Utah finally got their first to make it 4-1 at 19:30. Colt King got the goal from Travis Rycroft and Ed Hill.

The third period began with the Ice Dogs going up 5-1 on a power play goal by Christian Larrivee from Goldie and Aikins. Utah made it a 5-2 game at 2:07 on an unassisted goal by D.J. Jelitto. Mike Woodford scored the final goal of the game, a shorthanded empty-netter, with 2:55 remaining for the final 6-2 score.

Jaroslav Halak earned the win for Long Beach, making 22 saves. Justin Eddy took the loss with 30 saves for Utah. The Ice Dogs were 1-4 on the power play while stopping all five of the Grizzlies' opportunities.
