
Gladiators Fall to Lynx, 5-2

The Augusta Lynx snapped the Gladiators season high winning streak with a 5-2 win on Sunday afternoon at the Augusta Richmond County Civic Center. Scott Kelman opened the scoring with a power play goal 1:15 into the first period to give Gwinnett a 1-0 lead. Augusta was whistled for two penalties within the first 16 seconds of the period, putting the Gladiators on a 5-on-3 advantage. All alone on the off wing along the goal post, Kelman took a rink wide pass from Milan Gajic to set up the tally. Troy Milam extended his assist streak to seven games as he picked up an assist on the tally.
Augusta tied the game at a goal apiece late in the first period. Joel Stepp jammed the puck past Gladiators netminder Sean Fields after a scramble in front of the Gladiators net. Doug Wright added an assist on the goal scored with just 1:48 remaining in the first period.
Joel Stepp got the Lynx a 2-1 lead midway through the second period with a shorthanded goal. The Gladiators, with their second 5-on-3 power play of the game, gave the puck right to Stepp at the Augusta blue line allowing the Lynx forward to walk in on a breakaway and beat Fields. Stepp scored the unassisted shorthanded goal at 7:06 of the period.
Augusta pushed their lead to 3-1 with an even strength goal 13:49 into the second period. Chris Leinweber was able to jam the puck past Fields for the goal off a feed from B.J. Gaustad. Joel Perrault also picked up an assist on the goal for the Lynx.
Milan Gajic got the Gladiators within a goal posting his 6th tally of the season on the power play. Set up in the slot, Gajic took a centering pass from Steve Slaton out from behind the net and ripped a snapshot past Wolfe for the tally. Gajic's goal came at 17:41 of the second period.
Augusta got the two goal lead back 9:47 in to the third period as Doug Wright beat Gladiators netminder Sean Fields with a lazy wrist shot from the blue line. Ryan Lang picked up an assist on the goal 9:47 into the third period.
Joel Perrault rounded out the scoring with a power play goal at the 17:34 mark of the third period. He was able to beat Fields off a feed from Dan Sullivan for the goal to give the Lynx the 5-2 win.
Gwinnett went 2-for-6 on the power play while Sean Fields made 21 saves in the loss. Gwinnett outshot the Lynx by a 37-26 margin in the contest.
