Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

Phoenix, Ariz. - Goaltender Jake Moreland stopped 45 shots and Steve Slonina scored with less than three minutes remaining in regulation to break a scoreless tie and lead the Stockton Thunder to a 1-0 victory over the Phoenix RoadRunners before 3,665 at the US Airways Center in ECHL action Sunday.

Stockton (6-17-4) would get all the scoring they would need late in the hockey game. Maris Ziedins stripped RoadRunners' forward Mark Wires at the Stockton blue line and fed Steve Slonina who snuck into the offensive zone. Slonina fired a wrist shot from the high slot over goaltender Mike Mole's blocker off the crossbar and into the net at 17:19 of the third period to give the Thunder the 1-0 win and snap their 10-game winless streak.

Phoenix out-shot Stockton 45-17 and 33-6 over the final two periods. Mole stopped 16 shots in dropping to 5-15-2 on the season. The RoadRunners (9-21-2) went 0-5 on the power play.

Notes: The 45 shots for the RoadRunners was a season-high and the 17 shots against were a season-low...The shot differential was the largest of the season in favor of the RoadRunners...Phoenix also took a season-low three penalties...The RoadRunners are 0-25 on the power play in the last five games and 6-93 (6.4%) since December 1...Moreland's 45 saves were one short of both a season and career-high.

The RoadRunners continue their four-game homestand at 7:11PM Tuesday against the Alaska Aces at US Airways Center. It's the first of three consecutive home games against the Aces. For more information or to order tickets, call (602) 462-GOAL or purchase online at www.ticketmaster.com.
