SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls, who now have won four of their last five games, conclude their four-game homestand today against the Alaska Aces, unbeaten in regulation in 19 of their last 20 games. Should be a good one at the ipayOne Center.
SERIES HISTORY:
The Gulls and Aces have met four times so far this season with Alaska holding a 3-1-0 series edge. The teams square off once more during the regular season, which will also be in San Diego

LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING (JAN. 4 VS. ALASKA ):
Olivier Fillion broke a 2-2 tie 7:02 into the second period and the Aces never looked back en route to a 4-2 road win against the Gulls, just their seventh all-time win at the ipayOne Center. Alaska had leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but the Gulls came back to tie each time. Joe Talbot, Mike Scott and Vladimir Nowak also scored for Alaska, while Alex Kim and Richard Keyes lit the lamp for San Diego. The Aces scored twice on the power play and once short-handed.
GULLS UPDATE:
San Diego (15-12-4) enters the day second in the Pacific Division with 34 points, two in front of the third-place Long Beach Ice Dogs and six ahead of the fourth-place Bakersfield Condors... San Diego still has two games in hand on Long Beach, but Bakersfield has played four fewer games... The Gulls are 10 points back of the front-running Fresno Falcons... San Diego has won four of its last five games and is 14-7-4 in its last 25 games (since getting off to a 1-5-0 start)... During the last five games, the Gulls have killed 40 of 44 penalties (91 percent)... They have scored three short-handed goals during that span, two of them scored by Kim... San Diego is 8-4-3 at home... Including tonight, seven of its next nine games are at home...
PLAYER NOTES:
Kim, who is in the midst of a career-high 12-game point streak, was placed on the seven-day injured list today after hurting his shoulder last night against Utah... He has 20 points during his point streak (8g, 12a) and was named a runner-up for ECHL Player of the Month honors... Kim also leads the team with a +13 and has 27 total points (12g, 15a) in 18 games with the Gulls... Steve Hildenbrand has 26 points (10g, 16a) in the last 21 games... Keyes has 25 points (8g, 17a) in the last 21 games... Jesse Bennefield, who recorded his first career hat trick last night and second career four-point game, has 22 points (12g, 10a) and is a +9 in the last 13 games... Tyler Weiman has won six of his last seven decisions and has stopped 219 of 231 shots in that span (.948 save percentage)... He was named a runner-up for ECHL Goaltender of the Week and ECHL Goaltender of the Month...
ALASKA UPDATE:
Alaska (24-4-3) starts the day second in the West Division with 51 points, four behind the first-place Las Vegas Wranglers. The Aces, however, have played four fewer games than Las Vegas... Alaska also owns the second-best record in the entire ECHL... The Aces are unbeaten in regulation in 19 of their last 20 games (18-1-1)... Barrett Heisten, the ECHL's third leading scorer, is in the midst of a league-high 17-game point streak... Chris Minard, second in the league with 25 goals, was called up to Albany of the American Hockey League... Chris Beckford-Tseu (1.80) and Matt Underhill (2.16) are ranked one and two in goals against average...
TRANSACTIONS:
Kim was placed on 7-day IR today... Alex Rogosheske was transferred to the 30-day IR with a knee injury and may miss the rest of the season... Martin Mandeville was activated from the injured list yesterday... Darren Partch and Kelly Askew were signed Friday, while Jason Courtemanche and Justin Silver were released Thursday... David Svagrovsky was placed on seven-day IR Wednesday with a tear in his finger... Frantisek Skladany, who began the season with the Gulls, was called up to the NHL's Colorado Avalanche Tuesday... Cody McLeod was recalled by Lowell Tuesday... Doug MacIver (knee), Andy Thompson (wrist) and Guillaume Fournier (concussion) all remain on the injured list...
