Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Ice Dogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Kevin Kaminski, announced today that the Long Beach Ice Dogs have signed defensemen Dan Vandermeer and Lee Sorochan, and goaltender Colin Zulianello to one-year deals. As per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Vandermeer, 25, played in 72 games last season for the Richmond Renegades of the ECHL. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound defenseman compiled 11-20-31 regular season totals and 130 PIM’s. Vandermeer, a native or Caroline, Alberta, also played one game with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the AHL. “Vandermeer brings veteran leadership and his game face every night”, said Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. “He’s a greasy player and plays with grit.”

Sorochan, 28, played the last three seasons in Europe. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound defenseman registered his best professional season during the 1999-2000 season with the Saint-John Flames of the AHL when he recorded 4-37-41 and 124 PIM’s in 60 games. He was originally drafted by the New York Rangers (2nd round, 34th overall) in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, and played 3 games for the Calgary Flames. “Sorochan brings NHL experience that will anchor our defense”, said Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. “He’s a heavy, open ice hitter and we will look to him for guidance of the younger kids on this team.”

Zulianello, 25, split time last season between the Augusta Lynx and Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL. The 6-foor-2, 190-pound goaltender posted a combined record of 13-14-2, with a 3.09 GAA, 3 SO and a .907 save percentage in 31 games and was nominated for Goalie-of-the-Week honors in March, 2003. “Colin comes highly recommended by the hockey world and will be our starting goaltender for the upcoming season”, said Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. “He is dedicated and competes at a high level.”
