Bombers Sign Three More, Penner Reassigned from Syracuse

The Dayton Bombers have announced that they have signed forwards Olivier Proulx, Jeff Szwez, and Jake Wiegand to contracts. In addition, the Syracuse Crunch, the Bombers' American Hockey League affiliate, have reassigned goaltender Andrew Penner to the team.

Rookie center Olivier Proulx enjoyed a five-year run (1998-2003) in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. During the 2001-2002 season with the Drummondville Voltigeurs, Proulx scored 42 goals and added 77 assists in 71 games played. His 119 points ranked eighth in the QMJHL.

Right winger Szwez, a native of Etobicoke, Ontario, played 48 games in the ECHL-America's Premier AA Hockey League last season, tallying 10 goals and 15 assists in 48 games played with the Augusta Lynx. He also scored one goal in a nine-game stint with the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League.

Left winger Wiegand was added to the Bombers' roster in late March of 2003 after completing his collegiate hockey career with the University of Notre Dame. He appeared in four games with the Bombers.

Goalie Andrew Penner was reassigned by the AHL's Syracuse Crunch to the Bombers. Penner, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, was signed as a free agent by the Bombers' NHL affiliate, the Columbus Blue Jackets, on September 17, 2001. He played his junior career in the Ontario Hockey League.

On Wednesday, the Bombers announced the details regarding their Opening Night Extravaganza at the Ervin J. Nutter Center October 18, 2003 versus the Cincinnati Cyclones (7:00 p.m.).

As part of the evening's slate of festivities, the Dayton Bombers will be giving away Bomber "Banger Sticks" to every fan in attendance, courtesy of Value City Furniture, Advance Auto Parts, Pontiac, and WTUE-FM.

Prior to the game, a "Tailgate Bash" will take place in the Nutter Center Parking Lot outside of Gate 3, featuring great music, food, beverages, and other prize-winning activities and fun.

In addition to the Bomber "Banger Stick" Promotional Giveaway, the first 5000 fans in attendance will also receive a Dayton Bombers' 2003-2004 Magnetic Schedule, compliments of TravelPlex, Trane Heating & Air Conditioning, and Two Men & A Truck.

The Dayton Bombers' game, Jamie Ling's debut as Head Coach, launches the team's 13th season in the ECHL- America's Premier AA Hockey League and is the first of 11 head-to-head clashes against the intrastate rival Cincinnati Cyclones. Five of the head-to-head meetings throughout the season will be played at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.

The Dayton Bombers' 2003-2004 Training Camp Schedule will kick off this Sunday with team physicals. All Dayton Bombers' practices during the camp are open to the public.

Single game tickets for all Dayton Bombers' 2003-2004 home regular season games, including the Opening Night Extravaganza on Oct. 18, are on sale now.
