Brown remains an IceGator

Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA â The Louisiana IceGators have signed forward Bobby Brown, the team's second leading scorer in 2002-03, to a contract for the upcoming season, head coach and vice president of hockey operations Dave Farrish announced Friday.
The IceGators will now have 15 players report for physicals Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at 315 S. College St. The IceGators will go through their first on-ice workout Sunday at 10 a.m. at the HockeyPlex in Carencro. The team's training camp roster includes two goalies (Derek Gustafson, Dwight LaBrosse), four defensemen (Anthony Bilotto, Adam Collins, Josh Mizerek and Jan Vrtik) and nine forwards (Guillaume Berube, Armands Berzins, Ken Goetz, Brian Herbert, Konstantin Kalmikov, Alex Matierouhkine, Louis Peppe, Dennis Shiryaev and Brown).
"Obviously getting Bobby back in an IceGators uniform was key for us," said Farrish. "He's a leader on the ice and in the locker room, and he is as versatile as they come. Brownie can camp in front of the net or play the point on the power play. We're excited to have someone with almost 500 professional games played back. With his knowledge of hockey, it's like having a coach on the ice."
"Also, Bobby's community involvement is another main reason we wanted to bring him back," said Farrish. "He and his wife (Lacy) have made Lafayette their year-round home, and he has had a tremendous influence on Acadiana."
Brown, who turned 28 last week, is entering his eighth pro season. With the IceGators in 2002-03, he posted 79 points (37g, 42a) in 65 games, and his point total was second on the team. He also enjoyed a six-game call-up with AHL Cincinnati, registering two assists. The 6-foot, 200-pound Winnipeg, Man., native has pro totals of 408 points (173g, 235a) and 539 penalty minutes in 487 games. Brown, who has 90 games of experience in the AHL/IHL, has also played with ECHL Roanoke, Dayton, Baton Rouge, and AHL/IHL Saint John, Manitoba, Cincinnati and Houston. Brown also spent parts of three seasons in the WPHL/CHL.
Louisiana opens the season at Mississippi on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7:35 p.m., before the Sea Wolves make a return trip for the IceGators' home opener Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7:05 p.m. Individual tickets, starting at just $10 for adults and $9 for kids (ages 2-12 in any level) are now on sale at the Cajundome Box Office and Ticketmaster outlets. Opening Night will feature a Chris Valicevic jersey retirement ceremony.
