Generals Sign Berthiaume, Drummond and Parrish
October 3, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greensboro Generals News Release
Greensboro, NC â Greensboro Generals Head Coach/General Manager Rick Adduono has announced the signing of three key defensive players with the additions of netminder Daniel Berthiaume and defensemen Kurt Drummond and Geno Parrish.
Goaltender Daniel Berthiaume begins his 16th season in professional hockey, and his second with the Generals. An ironman for Greensboro, Berthiaume appeared in 53 games last season, where he finished with a 30-14-5 regular season record. Logging just under 3,000 minutes, Berthiaume allowed just 145 goals (2.90 GAA). He was just as productive in the post-season, appearing in eight games, winning four and allowing 24 goals (2.98 GAA).
"The 30 win speaks for themselves and his play was key to the success of the entire organization last season," said Adduono. "Berthiaume's leadership in the locker room is tremendous and I am looking forward to having him return."
With the return of Drummond and Parrish, Adduono will have experience for his in-game defensive strategies. Parrish was one of only three players from 2002-03 to appear in all 72 regular season games, and he gave the Generals 43 points off five goals and 38 assists.
"Geno is a proven defensive player that is going to be able to give you 40 to 50 minutes of action per game," said Adduono. "That style of defensive effort is enormous."
Drummond appeared in 41 games after battling injuries at various points throughout the season, and scored seven goals along with 20 assists, amassing 27 points. Impressive to Adduono last season was "his experience on defense is the best in the ECHL and we expect the same out of him for the 2003-04 campaign."
The Generals open the season at home on October 17th at 7:30 PM against the South Carolina Stingrays. Next up is the newly formed Texas Wildcatters who visit the Greensboro Coliseum for the first time on October 23rd at 7:30 PM.
Individual tickets for all Greensboro Generals 2003-04 home games are on sale now. Tickets may be purchased at the Coliseum advance box office, all participating Triad area Lowes Foods locations, on-line at www.tickets.com and by calling toll free (888) 397-3100.
