San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls have re-signed centers David Neale and Miguel Delisle, left-winger Sandro Sbrocca and defenseman Bryan Vines, General Manager and head coach Steve Martinson announced today. Per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Neale, 23, is back for his second season with the Gulls. In his rookie year in 2002-03, Neale notched 23 points (7g, 16a) and 38 penalty minutes in 69 games. His 23 points was eighth among all West Coast Hockey League rookies last season and his +11 rating ranked him fifth. Before turning pro, the 6-foot, 210-pounder from Victoria, British Columbia played at the University of Denver. During his college tenure, Neale was named to the All-Academic Team twice.

Delisle, 21, re-joins the squad for his first full season. The 6-foot-2-inch, 210-pound native of Cornwall, Ontario joined the Gulls late last season, posting six points (3g, 3a) in as many games. Delisle was a key component of San Diego's Taylor Cup Championship drive, registering seven points (4g, 3a) while playing in all 12 games. Before the Gulls, Delisle played five seasons in juniors. He was a fourth round selection of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. Delisle started the 2003-04 season in the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks training camp.

Sbrocca, 23, begins his third season with the Blue and Orange. In 84 games, the 6-foot-3-inch, 225-pounder from Montreal scored 17 points (6g, 11a) in 58 games. He also racked up 267 penalty minutes, first among WCHL rookies and fifth overall. Sbrocca began the 2003-04 season in the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim NHL rookie camp and the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks' training camp.

Vines, 24, is also back for his first full season. He was acquired at last seasons' trade deadline from the Long Beach Ice Dogs in exchange for Trent Clark. In 38 games for the Gulls and Ice Dogs last season Vines recorded three points (1g, 2a) and 14 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2-inch, 212-pound native of Oakville, Ontario previously played at the University of Denver. He and Neale were teammates there from 1998-2002. During his collegiate career with Denver, Vines won the sportsmanship award twice.

"I'm really happy to have all four of these players back in the fold for 2003-04," Martinson said. "Each played a significant role last season during our Taylor Cup run and they were rookies then. David, Miguel, Sandro and Bryan each have a season under their belt now and should play an even bigger role with the club this season."

The Gulls will open their training camp Monday at the San Diego Ice Arena. San Diego begins its 2003-04 campaign Saturday, Oct. 18 in Bakersfield. The Home Opener is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1 against the Idaho Steelheads.

Season and group packages are currently on sale. Individual tickets go on sale Monday at 10 a.m. For pricing and benefits, call 619-224-4625 ext. 7 or log onto www.sandiegogulls.com.
