Ice Dogs Prevail Over Salmon Kings

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (19-15-5) rose four games above .500 for the first time this season, while defeating a team they have never lost to, the Victoria Salmon Kings (15-25-1). The Ice Dogs improved their all-time record against the Salmon Kings to a perfect 12-0-0 while extending their lead over San Diego for second place in the Pacific Division.

After a scoreless first period, the Ice Dogs finally got one on the board at 1:34 of the second with a goal by Cory Urquhart. Kevin Ulanski and Mac Faulkner assisted on the play. It would remain 1-0 Ice Dogs heading into the final period.

In the third, Christian Larrivee scored at 10:06 with assists to Justin Aikins and Sean McAslan to give Long Beach a 2-0 lead. They were able to preserve the two goal lead the remainder of the way to get an important win heading into the All-Star break.

Jaroslav Halak earned his second shutout of the year for Long Beach, stopping all 25 shots he faced. David Currie took the loss for Victoria with 28 saves. Neither team managed a power play goal, with the Ice Dogs finishing 0-2 and the Salmon Kings 0-4.

Christian Larrivee, Justin Aikins, and Steeve Villeneuve will head to Fresno on Tuesday to compete in the ECHL Skills Competition and All-Star Game. The Ice Dogs will resume play next Friday starting at Fresno for a three game road trip before returning home February 1st to take on the Alaska Aces at 7pm.
