Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings continued their California tour with game two against the Bakersfield Condors. In their last trip of the regular season to Bird Town, the Salmon Kings were unable to find the nest behind Netminder Ryan Munce, and instead were handed the egg, losing 3-0.
Despite a consistent defence throughout the game, Victoria dropped down by two goals early and could not recover.
Joel Irving converted the first power play opportunity of the game for Bakersfield at 4:31 into the first period. Victoria Netminder Rob McVicar made the initial pad save, however the rebound fell onto the stick of Irving, who knocked it past McVicar and make it 1-0 for the Condors.
Andrew Ianiero added another powerplay goal to make it 2-0, with 1:20 left in the period. Ianiero found the five-hole on a rebound opportunity from a Kevin Truelson shot.
The Salmon Kings pressured the Condors throughout the second period, posting 13 shots on Munce, but were held to the boundaries of the blue line and couldn't close in on the crease. Each team was held scoreless for the second period, but the Condors had the lead 2-0.
With 7:23 remaining in the third, Paul Rosebush hit Kevin St. Jacques tape to tape, who waited for an opening past McVicar and fired a wrist shot under the crossbar, to settle the score at 3-0.
The Salmon Kings were 0 for 5 on the powerplay while the Condors converted two of their five opportunities with the man advantage.
McVicar was handed his seventh loss of the season and Munce earned his 12th mark in the win column. Victoria was outshooting Bakersfield after the second period 25-19, but the Condors finished the contest ahead, 32-30.
This is only the fifth time in club history that the Salmon Kings were held scoreless. Victoria is 1-2 against the Condors this season. The Salmon Kings wrap up their California tour against the Long Beach Ice Dogs (18-15-5), Sunday at 5:00 p.m. (PT)
