Checkers top Stingrays, 4-2

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers defeated the South Carolina Stingrays 4-2 Sunday in front of 4,012 fans at the St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Luke Stauffacher scored two goals to help the Checkers head into the All-Star break with a win.

The Checkers opened the game as Kris MacPhee scored at the 10:32 mark of the first period. South Carolina tied the game just three minutes later as Brad Parsons scored at the 13:37 mark. Stauffacher capped of the first period giving the Checkers a 2-1 advantage with a power play goal at the 18:57 mark of the first period.

The Checkers held the 2-1 lead through the second period and into the third until Evan Scwabe tied the game at 2-2 at the 11:21 mark. The tie didn't last for long though, as Juris Stals scored the game winner for the Checkers at the 12:21 mark. Stauffacher added his second goal of the night on an empty-netter at the 19:44 mark of the third.

Nathan Gillies had a big game for the Checkers as he registered three assists on the night.

Jeff Glass picked up his 10th win of the season stopping 36-of-38 shots. Davis Parley took the loss after replacing Maxime Daigneault after the first period. Parley made 19 saves on 20 shots, while Daigneault stopped 13-of-15 shots.

The Checkers will be back in action, following the All-Star break, on Friday as they head to Columbia. The Checkers will be back at home on Saturday and Sunday for a two-game set vs. Toledo.
