Checkers Sunday start time changed

January 22, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Charlotte Checkers News Release

The Charlotte Checkers have moved up the start time for Sunday's home game to 3:00 p.m. in order to allow Panthers fans to attend both the Checkers home game at Charlotte Bobcats Arena and get home in time to watch the Panthers game in Seattle on television.

The Checkers game vs. the South Carolina Stingrays was scheduled for 4:00 but in acknowledgement of hockey fans' interest in the NFL playoff games - and the huge swell of support for the Carolina Panthers - Checkers management requested the time change from the League and it was granted.

The doors at the arena will open at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday in keeping with the policy of opening one hour in advance of game time.

Checkers president Jeff Longo feels strongly that fans of both teams will appreciate the revised time schedule. "The Panthers are playing incredible football and we're all Panthers-crazy right now," he said. "At our office, we look forward to every playoff game and root like college kids for the blue and black. Frankly, we want to offer sports fans and families the fun of enjoying hockey AND football on Sunday. It sounds like the perfect kind of day to me and we think lots of folks in Charlotte will think so, too."

The post-game skate will take place for approximately one hour after the end of the game for fans who wish to participate.
