Ice Dogs Get First Win

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (1-4-0) got their first win of the season over the Stockton Thunder (0-1-1) in the first ever match up between the two teams. The Ice Dogs' two points now puts them into a three way tie for second place in the Pacific Division.

Cory Urquhart got the Ice Dogs on the board first at 14:54 of the first period on the power play with assists by Jason Sessa and James Sanford. Christian Larrivee made it 2-0 Ice Dogs at 15:47 of the second period, again on the power play with assists to Urquhart and Ash Goldie.

Leading 2-0 with less than six minutes to go in the game, Joel Irwin of the Thunder scored to make it 2-1, but the Ice Dogs came right back with a power play goal by Max Birbraer and an assist to Chris Kenady. Stockton then scored again twice, with goals by Mike Lalonde and Steve Slonina to tie it 3-3 and send the game into overtime.

After a scoreless overtime period, the game went into a shootout where the Ice Dogs prevailed, scoring on all four attempts they took. Ash Goldie was credited with the game winner.

In goal, the Ice Dogs' Greg Hewitt earned his first win of the season, making 26 saves, while Jeff Weber made 35 saves in the loss for Stockton. The Ice Dogs finished 3-11 on the power play while the Thunder went 1-8.
