Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Bakersfield out-played Alaska for most of regulation, but thanks to sharp goaltending by Matt Underhill, had to go overtime in order to emerge with a 2-1 victory before 5,151 at Sullivan Arena.

Underhill kept the Aces in the game for much of the first two periods, stopping all 26 shots he faced. Meanwhile, Alaska mustered little offense, managing just 14 shots in the first 40 minutes and 22 for the game. Bakersfield finally broke through early in the third period, as veteran center Kevin St. Jacques smacked in a rebound at 3:24. Trailing 1-0, the Aces failed to convert a power play late in the third period but drew even shortly thereafter, as Cam Keith, skating down the right wing, let a wrist shot go that sailed over Condors goaltender Davis Parley's right shoulder and just underneath the crossbar for the equalizer with 2:40 left in regulation.

Alaska again went on the power play early in overtime, but failed to score. The Aces finished 0-for-8 with the man advantage, totaling only five shots on goal in those eight opportunities, and are 2-for-30 to begin the regular season. The winning goal came on a deflection with 34.6 seconds remaining in OT and was credited to Andrew Ianiero, whose shot was inadvertently knocked in by Mike Scott, who was desperately trying to clear the puck out of the crease area. By earning a point for the tie in regulation, Alaska remains in second place in the West Division with a 3-1-1 record, while Bakersfield improves to 2-1, second place in the Pacific.

The series finale starts at 5:05 tomorrow evening and offers fans their first opportunity at a KeyBank "Skate with the Aces." Players will be available for autographs and pictures on the ice immediately following the contest, which wraps up a six-game homestand to open the season for Alaska. All games, home and away, will be broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. In addition, all games (excluding road contests at Long Beach and Victoria) will be available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, courtesy of B2 Networks.
