Bakersfield Condors News Release
ANCHORAGE, AK - Chris Beckford-Tseu stopped all 23 Condor shots he faced and a battle between Zack Fitzgerald and Kevin Kotyluk highlighted a 4-0 Bakersfield Condors loss to the Alaska Aces Sunday night at the Sullivan Arena.
The Aces opened scoring midway through the first as a shot on goal was initially saved by Condors netminder Ryan Cyr, but the rebound was picked up by Chris Minard, who sent it in just behind Cyr and over the line before the rookie goaltender could recover it. Alex Leavitt and Ryan Gaucher assisted as the Aces took the 1-0 lead at 10:21 of the first.
Alaska doubled their lead in the second period as Mike Scott recovered his own blocked shot along the boards and threw a centering feed to the far side of the crease, where Barrett Heisten tapped the puck on a one-timer past Cyr to make it 2-0 with 6:29 remaining in the second.
The Aces sealed it at the 10:48 mark of the third period as Barrett Heisten whistled the puck low past Cyr on passes from Ryan Gaucher and Alex Leavitt to make it 4-0 Alaska.
Two wild rounds between Bakersfield's Kevin Kotyluk and Alaska's Zack Fitzgerald resulted in a match penalty, a game misconduct and a 10 minute misconduct for the Aces defenseman and a 10 minute misconduct for Kotyluk, and brought the crowd of 3,693 to its feet.
Chris Beckford-Tseu picked up his first shutout and improved to 3-0-0 by stopping all 23 Condor shots. Ryan Cyr was given the loss in his first professional start, making 28 saves on 32 shots.
Other notes: Eric Neilson was activated from the 7-day injured reserve and was in uniform tonight. Justin Quenneville suffered a broken collarbone in Saturday's 2-1 overtime win over Alaska and was placed on the 30-day injured reserve.
The Condors return home Friday, November 4th when they host the San Diego Gulls. All fans in attendance will receive a free team poster courtesy of Hot 94.1 FM and Econo Air. The Rabobank Arena and the Condors then play host to Dodgeball Night vs. the Las Vegas Wranglers on Saturday, November 5th.
