Ice Dogs Fall to Fresno, 5-4

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Ice Dogs continued their losing ways Friday night, dropping to Fresno, 5-4, in a shootout at Long Beach Arena. It was the Ice Dog's sixth straight defeat, and Fresno snapped their three-game winless streak. The two teams face one another Saturday night at Long Beach Arena.

Long Beach (11-13-1) surrendered three goals in the first period to Fresno (9-10-3) before putting together an offensive attack of their own. Jamie O'Leary beat goaltender Terry Friesen (8-8-2) 6:36 into the second. Byran Vines recorded his first point as an Ice Dog at 11:44 in the second to cut the Fresno lead to 3-2. Kris Porter scored on a breakaway to push the Falcons ahead 4-2 at 14:35. Long Beach answered with a goal by Jeff Attard at 16:33 to pull the Ice Dogs to 4-3.

Mike Kelleher sent the game to a shoot-out when he took a perfect pass from J.P. O'Connor and scored at 15:28 in the third.

In the shootout, Long Beach goaltender Mike Buzak (4-7-1) allowed three goals in eight chances, however, the Ice Dogs only beat Friesen twice. It was the first shootout loss in three tries for Long Beach this season. The current six-game losing streak is the club's longest since joining the WCHL. The franchise record for consecutive loses is nine.
