Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Trevor Koenig turned in 24 stops to earn his 13th career West Coast Hockey League shutout as the San Diego Gulls stretched their winning streak to six with a 5-0 whitewash of Anchorage Friday before 2,656 at Sullivan Arena.

Sylvain Deschatalets tipped in a Kevin Grant howitzer from the high slot midway through the first period, setting the stage for what would be a difficult evening for Anchorage's special teams. Former Ace Clayton Read set up Dean Tiltgen for the game's second goal at 4:27 of the second period. Grant ripped another slapshot past a screened Christian Soucy (who finished with 31 saves in defeat) with 8:04 left in the middle frame to extend the lead to 3-0. R.J. Enga scored San Diego's third power play goal of the night early in the third period to seal the victory. Cory Cyrenne's one-timer from Deschatalets with 6:22 remaining accounted for the final margin.

Anchorage (9-18-1) failed to score in five power play attempts and was outshot 36-24. Grant and Cyrenne each had a goal and two assists while Enga and Deschatalets chipped in with a goal and a helper for San Diego (14-10-1). The Aces, who suffered their first shutout at home since February 15 of last season against Bakersfield, once again will be adorned in their special Christmas jerseys for tomorrow night's game, which begins at 7:00 p.m. AST. The uniform sweaters will be auctioned right off the players' backs following the contest.

All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
