Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads treated 4,519 fans to a 3-1 win over the Bakersfield Condors at the Bank of America Centre Saturday night.

Bakersfield goalie Frederick Jenson (0-5-1) stopped 37 shots in his first start against the Steelheads this season, while Jason Cugnet prevented 24 from getting past him to improve his record to 13-5-1.

The Steelheads scored first for the third game in a row to put Idaho up 1-0. The goal came at 5:10 from Joe Rybar, assisted by Cory Morgan and Scott Swanson. The Condors tied it up quickly though when Jason Jackman scored at 7:01 on a pass from Jeff Goldie. The Steelheads were able to ward off a critical chance for Bakersfield to go ahead midway through the period when the Condors had a two-man advantage.

There were plenty of opportunities to score in the second period, however, they would all prove futile. The Steelheads league-leading power play missed on 6 opportunities, while the Condors failed on two in the second. After the first 40 minutes of play, the game was knotted at one apiece.

Marty Flichel gave Idaho the lead quickly in the third with a goal at the :35 mark. Chris Marinucci and Rybar recorded the assists. The insurance goal came from Scott Burt at 11:32, assisted by Flichel and Dan Shermerhorn to end the game 3-1 in Idaho's favor.

Next up, the Steelheads play a three-game series against the Aces in Anchorage, December 27th through the 29th.
