Huskies Drop Game Two to Express; Finish 3-5 on the Road Trip

Duluth Huskies News Release

Eau Claire, Wisconsin - Husky pitching offered up 14 walks to the Eau Claire Express lineup, which decimated Duluth's chances at a two game sweep with a 7-4 loss. Third baseman Mike Boeve was one of the lone bright spots for the Huskies, smashing his first homerun of the season that plated two runs in the eight inning. The Duluth offense had no answer for Eau Claire starter Jack Brown, who tossed five innings of shutout baseball.

Hard-throwing right hander Nate Wohlgemuth made his first collegiate start for the Huskies, but it didn't last very long. The Arkansas transfer lasted just one inning, in which he walked five and allowed three runs. Maxwell Pappas and Brody Maynard followed out of the bullpen in an effort to keep Duluth in the game. Both Pappas and Maynard combined to give up four runs over the next five innings of work.

Down 7-0 heading into the eight inning, Boeve lit a spark for the Husky offense with a two-run home run that cut the deficit to five heading into the ninth inning. Duluth was able to mustar two more runs off a two RBI triple from catcher Bryen Broecker, yet the Express would hold on to win 7-4. The loss for the Huskies gave them a 3-5 record at the end of their eight game road trip.

Duluth now drives back to Wade Stadium for a four game homestand against the Waterloo Bucks and the Bismarck Larks. The Huskies are 3-3 against the division rival Bucks this season, while being winless against the Larks at 0-2.
