
Pit Spitters Bust out Broom out for Doubleheader

Traverse City, MI - The (16-8) Traverse City Pit Spitters swept the Thursday doubleheader against the (12-13) Kokomo Jackrabbits.
Game 1 was all Traverse City. Miles Simington singled home Mario Camiletti in the first. In the second, Camilletti singled home Jake Arnold. In the fourth, Tito Flores doubled home Camilletti to go up 3-1. Chris Monroe blasted his fourth home run of the season to increase the lead to 5-1.
Wyatt Rush (3-0, 1.38) dazzled in his first start of the season. The Michigan State righty went seven innings of one run ball, only allowing three hits and striking out five with no walks.
The Pit Spitters added insurance late. Flores singled home Faust, Stygles singled home Flores and Traficante knocked in Zeb Roos to go up 8-1.
The Jackrabbits made it interesting in the ninth. They collected four hits and scored two runs. With two outs and the bases loaded, Max Bergmann got a double play up the middle to end the game 8-3.
Five Pit Spitters had multiple hits: Faust, Camilletti, Flores, Monroe (2) and Stygles (3).
Mario Camilletti made it nine consecutive games with at least one walk.
Game 2 got off to a rocky start. Jesse Heikkinen gave up four runs in the first and one in the second. He would leave the game after two innings.
Cam Schuelke came in and gave the performance of his life. He went five innings of shutout baseball, leaving bases loaded in the seventh.
After five no hit innings, Adam Proctor hit a solo home run to lead off the sixth. Crews Taylor scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 5-2.
In the seventh, Kokomo walked the bases loaded with two outs. Mario Camilletti hit a drive to center, getting down at the wall and clearing the bases to give his team the lead.
John Beuckelaere pitched a scoreless eighth, stranding the bases loaded for the second straight inning.
Trey Yunger led off the ninth with his first home run of the season and Evan Gates finished off the save (5) for the 7-5 comeback victory.
Traverse City won despite being more than doubled in hits (4 to Kokomo's 9).
Mario Camilletti reached base safely for the 10th game in a row, but his walk streak ended at nine games.
