Huntsville, AL --- Chris Nowak homered and drove in three, while Mark Rogers fanned 10 over six innings as Huntsville defeated Carolina 10-2 at Joe Davis Stadium on Tuesday night.

Nowak doubled home two runs in the first inning, then homered in the sixth against James Avery (L, 0-1) to give the Stars a 4-2 lead.

Meanwhile, Rogers set a season-high with 10 strikeouts, including five in the first two innings of the game to lead the Stars into a first place tie in the Northern Division with Tennessee.

Dave Sappelt drove in both Carolina runs, singling home Kris Negron in the third and tripling Negron in during the fifth to close the deficit to 3-2.

The Stars put the game away with two unearned runs in the seventh, capitalizing on two Carolina errors in the seventh, then tacking on four in the eighth. Lee Tabor was charged with six runs (three earned) over 1 2/3 innings.

Avery was making his return to Double-A after missing nearly a year after arm surgery. Avery went 6-3 over the past two months with High-A Lynchburg. Avery worked six innings, permitting four earned runs on seven hits.

Carolina committed four errors in the game, and remained four games behind Huntsville and Tennessee.

Matt Klinker (5-5, 1.98) opposes 10-game winner Amaury Rivas on Wednesday night at 8:00 PM ET.
