PEARL, Miss. - A three-run second inning was all the offense the BayBears needed on Tuesday night as they defeated the Mississippi Braves, 4-1, at Trustmark Park.

Bryan Byrne began the second with an opposite-field double to left field, marking the first of the series for the BayBears (58-47, 22-15), brushing off the remnants of Monday's no-hitter. After Taylor Harbin was hit by a pitch, Ed Easley singled to load the bases. Jake Wald punched a sac fly to center, scoring Byrne to put the BayBears on top by a run.

Two batters later, with two outs, Evan Frey trickled a ball through the right side of the infield past a diving Eric Duncan. Frey's knock allowed Harbin and Easley touch the dish with the BayBears grabbing a 3-0 advantage against Erik Cordier (9-7).

Wade Miley (4-1) was sharp once again for the BayBears as he limited the Braves (47-59, 17-21) to a run on four hits in five innings. Mississippi picked up their only tally in the fourth as Donell Linares singled home Duncan after he doubled to lead-off the frame.

Miley fanned a pair in his five frames before giving way to Josh Ellis, who recorded a pair of scoreless innings. Bryan Woodall worked through the eighth before Daniel Stange (S, 5) shut the door in the bottom of the ninth.

Collin Cowgill added to the final pieces to the BayBears' puzzle on Tuesday as he doubled home Ollie Linton for the final run in the top of the ninth and doubled Cody Johnson off first from right field for the final out in the bottom half.

The BayBears will battle the Braves at Trustmark Park on Wednesday night at 7:05 in game three of their five-game set with a return to Hank Aaron Stadium on Saturday, August 7, against the Jacksonville Suns at 7:05 p.m. The BayBears have also announced that Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey will be coming to Hank Aaron Stadium on Wednesday, August 11 and Thursday, August 12 for a special, two-day appearance in Mobile.
