MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The first place Tennessee Smokies ended their two-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits on Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

The win is Tennessee's first of the series, and the Smokies keep themselves in at least a tie with the Huntsville Stars for first place in the Southern League North Division second half standings.

Tennessee starter Craig Muschko turned in one of his finest performances of the season to earn his sixth victory in 2010. Muschko pitched seven innings while only allowing one run on seven hits. He also struck out four batters as he took his third straight victory. Alex Torres took the loss for Montgomery, giving up two runs on seven hits in five innings of work.

Unlike the previous two contests, the Smokies took the game's first lead. Russ Canzler hit an RBI single to put Tennessee on top 1-0 in the top of the first inning. Canzler finished the game 3-4 with the RBI. Tennessee added another run in the second on Brett Jackson's RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.

Some fireworks occurred during the seventh inning stretch, as Tennessee's Jackson and manager Bill Dancy were ejected from the game by home plate umpire Travis Carlson. The ejection happened after Jackson was called out on strikes to end the top of the seventh.

Tennessee added a run in the top of the eighth as Steve Clevenger got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Blake Lalli to put Tennessee up 3-1.

Luke Sommer pitched a scoreless eighth for Tennessee, and Kyle Smit tossed a scoreless ninth to get the save and preserve the 3-1 Smokies win.

The clubs will continue the series on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium. Chris Archer (5-1, 0.27 ERA) will pitch for Tennessee against Montgomery's Alex Cobb, who is 4-4 with a 3.77 ERA. The game begins at 8:05 p.m., and fans can listen to the contest on the Smokies Radio Network.
