MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Tennessee Smokies fell 3-2 to the Montgomery Biscuits in the second game of the five-game series on Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

The loss puts Tennessee in a first place tie with the Huntsville Stars in the Southern League's North Division second half standings. The Smokies are now 22-16 in the second half, while still boasting the top overall record in the league at 64-43.

Tennessee starter Chris Rusin took the loss in his Southern League debut. In his first start in Class AA, Rusin gave up an unearned run on four hits, while walking three batters and striking out four. Biscuits starter Jake McGee earned his third win of the year by pitching five and two thirds scoreless innings while only giving up three Tennessee hits.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Montgomery added to their lead in the sixth. Drew Anderson hit an RBI double to score Nevin Ashley to put the Biscuits ahead by two runs.

Tennessee trimmed the lead in the top of the seventh. Nate Samson's RBI single cut the lead to 2-1 in the seventh, but the Biscuits quickly responded. Rashad Eldridge's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh put Montgomery back ahead by two scores at 3-1.

The Smokies came right back in the top of the eighth with an RBI single for Matt Spencer to put Tennessee one run back at 3-2.

Fresh off the disabled list, Smokies reliever Ryan Buchter pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth to keep the deficit at one run. During the inning, Montgomery left fielder John Matulia struck out, and was ejected for arguing following the call of umpire Gerard Ascani.

After getting the win in last night's game, Biscuits reliever Dane De La Rosa got the save as he kept the Smokies scoreless in the top of the ninth to preserve Montgomery's 3-2 win.

Only Samson registered a multi-hit game for Tennessee, going 2-4 with his run batted in during the seventh inning.
