
Jaxx Hang On For Second Straight Win

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. (August 4, 2010) - Despite stranding 12 runners on base, the Diamond Jaxx (17-22) hang on to beat the Lookouts (16-22) on Wednesday night, 3-2 in Chattanooga. The Jaxx improve to 11-9 in one-run games this season and now lead the series two games to one over the Lookouts. The Jaxx remain six games back in the Southern League North. Brandon Haveman had three hits for the Diamond Jaxx and Dan Cortes earned his first save of the season.
Haveman was 3-for-5 with an RBI on Wednesday night to lead the Jaxx 13-hit night. Nate Tenbrink, Brandon Bantz, Carlos Peguero and Scott Savastano had two hits to help the Diamond Jaxx to the win. The Lookouts were held to just four hits and no Chattanooga player had a multi-hit game. Trayvon Robinson had two RBI's and a double and finished 1-for-4 for the Lookouts.
Mauricio Robles remains winless since June 28th despite another quality start. Robles fired six innings and allowed just two runs on three hits. The Venezuelan struck out six and walked three in a no decision. Luis Munoz (4-4) struck out one in two scoreless innings of relief for the win. Danny Cortes earned his first save in the ninth by striking out two and allowing just one hit. The Lookouts did strand the tying run at third base in the ninth.
The Jaxx got on the board first in the top of the fifth inning. After four scoreless frames the Jaxx got a RBI double from Johan Limonta and went up 1-0.
The Diamond Jaxx extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning on a RBI single by Brandon Haveman that scored Scott Savastano. The Jaxx led 2-0.
Chattanooga tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning at 2-2. Trayvon Robinson double in Kyle Russell and Jessie Mier to even the game.
Scott Savastano scored on a throwing error by Chattanooga's second baseman Jaime Pedroza in the top of the eighth. The Jaxx re-took the lead 3-2.
The series continues on Thursday night at AT&T Field in Chattanooga, with a 6:15 game time. RHP Steven Hensley (7-9, 3.89) will take the mound for the Diamond Jaxx while RHP Chris Withrow (3-6, 5.14) tosses for the Lookouts.
