Houston Duo Set to Pitch for Express

ROUND ROCK - Houston Astros right-handers Brandon Backe and Chris Sampson will take the mound in rehabilitation assignments for the Triple-A Round Rock Express over the next two days.

Backe will make his fifth start for Round Rock on Wednesday and Sampson, who has appeared for one inning for Round Rock, will come on in relief either Tuesday or Wednesday as the Express plays host to the Albuquerque Isotopes at The Dell Diamond beginning at 7:05 p.m. both nights.

Backe joined Round Rock earlier in August and is 2-2 with a 4.26 earned-run average over four appearances. He has allowed nine runs on 21 hits, 15 strikeouts and 10 walks over 19 innings.

Backe, a native of Galveston, went 10-8 with Houston in 2005 and posted a 3-2 record in eight starts before being sidelined last season. He is 19-14 with a 4.71 earned-run average over five major league seasons.

Sampson is 7-8 with a 4.53 ERA over 20 outings (19 starts) for the Astros this season.
