Portland Beavers News Release

TUCSON, Ariz. - Carlos Quentin was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Matt Erickson drove in two runs as the Tucson Sidewinders defeated the Portland Beavers 4-3 Tuesday night at Tucson Electric Park.

The Beavers entered the top of the ninth inning trailing by two runs and put runners on first and second for Brian Myrow. Myrow drove in Brady Clark from second base to bring Portland within one run. Brandon Medders induced a game-ending double play to seal the win for Tucson (74-62).

Myrow was 3-for-5 with an RBI and Paul McAnulty was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for Portland (56-82). Roger Deago (2-5) picked up the loss for the Beavers, allowing four runs over seven innings.

Casey Daigle (10-4) earned his 10th win of the season allowing two runs on three hits while striking out five.

Alex Romero led off the bottom of the first inning with a double to right field and advanced to third base on a wild pitch from Deago. Carlos Gonzalez drove in Romero with a ground ball to second base. With the bases loaded, Erickson drove in the second run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to give Tucson a 2-0 lead.

With the bases loaded and none out in the bottom of the third inning, Robby Hammock drove in the third run of the game for Tucson. Erickson drove in his second run of the game on a ground ball to first base.

After Brady Clark led off the top of the fourth inning with a single, McAnulty hit a two-run home run to cut the Tucson lead in half.

The Beavers wasted a golden opportunity to take the lead in the top of the eighth inning, loading the bases against Tucson reliever Randy Choate. Choate worked his way out of the jam and got Luke Carlin to fly out to right field, ending the threat.

The Beavers continue their series with Tucson, Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Tucson Electric Park.

NOTES: Michael Barrett joined the Beavers to begin a major league rehabilitation assignment Tuesday ... Left-handed pitcher Joe Thatcher was recalled by the Padres ... Tim Stauffer was optioned to Portland from San Diego.
