Cubs Big Inning Dooms \'Birds

Memphis, Tenn. - Iowa used a five-run seventh inning rally to down Memphis 8-2 Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.

Former Redbird John Nelson hit a two-run homer off reliever Mark Worrell in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 2-2. Tony Richie delivered the big hit for the Cubs knocking in a pair of runs with a single before scoring on Jake Fox's groundout to complete the five-run rally. Ronny Cedeno led the I-Cubs with four hits finishing a home run shy of the cycle. Miguel Cairo had two hits for the Redbirds and Joe Mather hit his 13th home run with a two-run shot in the fourth inning. Mather has at least one RBI in each of his last seven games.

Clay Rapada picked up the win in relief for Iowa. He pitched two scoreless frames to get his seventh win of the year. Mark Worrell took the loss for the ‘Birds after giving up four runs on four hits without recording an out. Memphis starter Chris Lambert was strong in five scoreless innings allowing just three hits. Randy Wells started for Iowa and allowed two runs on three hits with five strikeouts in four innings.

Mike Parisi will get the ball for the Redbirds tomorrow night to face former Redbird left-hander Les Walrond. First pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m.
