Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Geneva, IL - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (18-9) were swept in a doubleheader by the Kane County Cougars (12-13) by scores of 4-2 and 3-1 on Friday at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. The opener went into eleven innings while the nightcap wrapped up in the standard seven innings for a twin bill. Hot Rod starters RHP Dylan Floro and RHP Reinaldo Lopez combined to allow only one earned run and pitched five innings apiece while opening each game on Friday.
In the opener, Bowling Green clawed back from an early two-run deficit to force its second straight extra-inning game. Down 2-0 in the sixth inning, Andrew Toles put the Hot Rods on the scoreboard by driving in Leonardo Reginatto with an RBI single. Luke Maile tied the contest with a run-scoring single that plated Tommy Coyle.
Neither team scored again until the Cougars produced the game-winning hit in the eleventh. Pin-Chieh Chen reached on a two-out single into left field and stole second base while Rock Shoulders was at the plate. Shoulders hit a walk-off home run over the wall in right field to guarantee a series win for the Cougars and a victory in the doubleheader opener.
The Hot Rods and Cougars each scored one run in the early innings of game two before Lopez and RHP Ian Dickson settled into a pitchers' duel. Dickson retired ten straight Bowling Green batters during one stretch while Lopez held the Cougars hitless through a whole turn of the order.
Kane County scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth. Marco Hernandez and Oliver Zapata hit back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners. Pin-Chieh Chen followed with a hard ground ball that produced an error and helped Hernandez score from third base. The Cougars added another run with a Bijan Rademacher RBI single in the sixth to finish the scoring.
The Hot Rods will remain on the road and square off with the Clinton LumberKings in a three-game set opening in Iowa on Saturday. First pitch for the series opener is scheduled for 6:00 PM CDT with the Forever Communications Pregame Show beginning at 5:30 PM CDT.
