Rattlers come back, stun Lugs in 10 innings

LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts' (8-17) bullpen allowed eight runs over the final three innings of the game, allowing the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (10-14) to come back from a six-run deficit to win, 10-8, in 10 innings on Friday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Trailing 8-3 heading into the ninth inning, Wisconsin sent all nine hitters to the plate, rattling off five runs against Lugnuts relievers Tucker Donahue and Chuck Ghysels (Loss, 0-1). Run-scoring hits from Adam Giacalone, Parker Berberet, Chris McFarland and Mike Garza brought the Rattlers to within 8-7 before a sacrifice fly by Alfredo Rodriguez tied the game at 8-8.

Wisconsin took its first and only lead in the top of the 10th inning against Ghysels. With runners on the corners, Jose Sermo roped a triple down into the right field corner, scoring a pair and giving the Rattlers the 10-8 lead.

Taylor Wall set the Lugnuts down 1-2-3 in the 10th inning, earning his second save of the season, and securing the series win for Wisconsin.

In total, the Lugnuts bullpen allowed eight runs on 10 hits in five innings of work in relief of starter Javier Avendaño. Avendaño threw five innings in the no-decision, allowing two runs on five hits.

Damien Magnifico (Win, 3-0) threw five innings of relief to earn the win, allowing four runs on four hits.

Leonard Lorenzo received a no-decision, tossing four innings in the start. He surrendered four runs - three of them earned - on five hits. He fanned two Lugnuts hitters and allowed two walks.

The Lugnuts bats were hot early in the game, jumping out to an 8-2 lead after six innings. In the loss, Dwight Smith, Jr. finished the night 3-for-5 and Gustavo Pierre drove in three runs, going 2-for-5 at the plate.

The Beloit Snappers now pay a visit to Lansing, starting a three-game series Saturday night in the Lugnuts' first of two Eat-A-Paloozas presented by Gordon Food Service this season. For $18, fans receive the value of admission and all-you-can-eat inside the ballpark. Lansing will send lefty Alonzo Gonzalez (1-1, 4.37) against Snappers right-hander Raul Alcantara (3-1, 3.18).
