
Hot Rods Score First, but Fall to South Bend 17-4

BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (10-10) got out to an early 3-0 lead, but couldn't hold on as the South Bend Cubs (8-9) won 17-4.
Bowling Green started the game strong, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. 2B Vidal Brujan and CF Carl Chester led off with back to back hits. DH Ronaldo Hernandez and 1B Devin Davis followed up with RBI singles and the Hot Rods were up 3-0.
The Cubs first got on the board in the top of the third, when CF Zach Davis led off with a triple and was brought home on a LF Roberto Caro single to make it a 3-1 game.
Then the Cubs took the lead in the top of the fourth when RF Brendan Hughes got things started with a one out single. His single was followed up with three straight walks then a two RBI double from 2B Jhonny Bethencourt and South Bend had a 6-3 lead.
The Hot Rods responded in the bottom of the frame thanks to a RF Eleardo Cabrera walk and a Chester two out RBI single to cut the deficit to 6-4.
The Cubs pulled away in the top of the sixth when they batted around. Bethencourt ledd off with a home run. C Miguel Amaya and Hughes both picked up RBI hits, Caro picked up two RBIs from a triple and the Cubs were on top of the Hot Rods 12-4.
LHP Resly Linares got the start for the Hot Rods, throwing three and one-third innings allowing five hits, four earned runs, three walks, and five strikeouts. He was followed up by RHP Riley O'Brien, who allowed two earned runs in one and two-thirds innings pitched.
The Cubs got two runs in the seventh inning on an Amaya two run home run that was crushed to left field. 1B Devin Davis came in to make his second appearance on the mound to pitch the ninth. He allowed three runs, but only one of them was earned.
RHP Erich Uelman picked up his first win of the season improving to 1-2. Linares was tagged with his first loss of the season falling to 0-1. RHP Brendan King pitched three scoreless innings for the Cubs, but didn't get a save as RHP Manuel Rodriguez recorded the final three outs for the Cubs
Next up the Hot Rods face the South Bend Cubs again tomorrow morning for another education day game at 10:35am Central time. RHP Austin Franklin (1-2 6.23) will get the start for the Hot Rods, while the Cubs will counter with LHP Tyler Thomas (1-2, 0.60).
