Lugnuts Continue Dayton Dominance, 13-2

LANSING, Mich. - Kevin Smith hammered three doubles, Kevin Vicuña scored three runs, Zach Logue tossed six strong innings, and the Lansing Lugnuts (12-6) cruised past the Dayton Dragons (9-8), 13-2, on a Winning Wednesday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The Nuts, winners of a season-high four in a row, have outscored the Dragons 30-9 in taking the first three games of the four-game series.
Coupled with two West Michigan losses at Lake County, the Lugnuts leapfrogged into first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.
Lansing took control of the game from the start, grabbing a 2-0 lead in the first inning off Mac Sceroler (Loss, 1-2) thanks to a Smith RBI double and a Cullen Large RBI single.
The Nuts' balanced attack added on two more runs in the third inning, four in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three runs in the sixth. All nine members of the starting lineup collected at least one hit and scored at least one run, and all but two hitters drove in a run. In all, the Lugnuts amassed 14 hits, eight walks and two HBPs - one of center fielder Reggie Pruitt, who departed the game due to injury precaution after getting struck with the bases loaded in the fifth inning.
On the other side, southpaw Logue (Win, 2-0) made sure his teammates never needed to worry. The Kentucky product lowered his ERA to 2.78 after limiting the Dragons to just one run in his six frames, striking out three and scattering six hits and one walk.
Dany Jimenez pitched the seventh and eighth innings, fanning three and allowing a run on three hits. Kyle Weatherly pitched around a walk in a scoreless ninth.
Shortstop Smith finished the game 3-for-5 with two RBIs, increasing his league-leading RBI total to 19. Second baseman Vicuña was 2-for-5, giving him a league-leading 25 hits.
