Grand Rapids, MI - Starting up a seven-game road trip and a four-game series in Grand Rapids, the Bowling Green Hot Rods lost to the West Michigan Whitecaps by a score of 9-5 on Monday night.

To start off the game and series, the Whitecaps scored the first nine runs of the game over the first five innings. West Michigan got a RBI single from outfielder Cam Gibson to start the scoring off in the second inning and then a RBI triple from catcher Arvicent Perez and a RBI single by outfielder Jose Azocar to lead a four-run third inning.

Two innings later, a RBI double by Perez and a three-run homer by Gibson gave the Whitecaps all the run they needed.

West Michigan did the majority of their damage against Hot Rods starter Roel Ramirez (L, 3-6), who gave up eight runs on 13 hits in 4+ innings pitched. Righty Yoel Espinal finished the game for the Hot Rods, giving up the Gibson homer but was tabbed for an earned run and two hits over the final four frames.

Offensively, the Hot Rods scored all five runs in the eighth inning when they batted around against Whitecaps relievers Jon Maciel and Ryan Milton. Headlining the surge, shortstop Jacob Cronenworth came through with a two-run double while Bowling Green also got a two-run single by second basemen Brandon Lowe and a RBI single from catcher Brett Sullivan.

As a team, the Hot Rods churned out 12 hits, led by Cronenworth, Lowe, Sullivan, catcher David Rodriguez and David Olmedo-Barrera with two hits apiece. Olmedo-Barrera and Rodriguez increased their individually hit streaks to 12 games each.

Prior to getting to the Whitecaps bullpen, West Michigan starter Sandy Baez (W, 3-7) tossed six scoreless frames while giving up just six hits against the Hot Rods offense.

Bowling Green will continue their roadtrip on Tuesday with the second game of a four-game series against the West Michigan WhiteCaps at Fifth Third Field. They will send righty Taylor Hawkins to the mound.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. All seven games during the road trip are in eastern time.
