Lansing Lugnuts News Release
MIDLAND, Mich. - Gage Green beat out an RBI infield single in the bottom of the ninth, and the Great Lakes Loons (3-2, 32-43) capped a comeback from four runs down by walking off the Lansing Lugnuts (4-1, 40-35), 6-5, on Monday night at Dow Diamond.
The Lugnuts saw their six-game winning streak come to an end.
The result spoiled a starring performance from Lansing left-hander Angel Perdomo, who struck out a career high 12 batters in 6 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and two runs.
Eighth-inning homers from Max Pentecost and Connor Panas gave Lansing a 5-2 lead with six outs to play. Both extended long on-base streaks, with Pentecost reaching in his 22nd consecutive game and Panas for the 15th straight game.
Great Lakes narrowed the deficit to one run on back-to-back sacrifice flies against Ryan Cook in the bottom of the eighth.
In the ninth, Dusty Isaacs (Blown Save, 6; Loss, 1-4) plunked leadoff hitter Cristian Gomez. Two batters later, Darien Tubbs doubled in Gomez to tie the game at 5-5. A Noah Perio fielder's choice erased Tubbs, landing Perio at second base. The Lugnuts intentionally walked Ariel Sandoval before Green outraced a deep bouncer to second, scoring Perio.
Wes Helsabeck (Win, 3-0) pitched a scoreless ninth inning in relief to earn the decision for the Loons.
The Lugnuts and Loons play the second game of their four-game series at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. Left-hander Ryan Borucki (4-3, 3.28) starts against Great Lakes right-hander Isaac Anderson (5-3, 4.64).
The Lugnuts return to Cooley Law School Stadium in time for Independence Day! Go Nuts for special 4th of July LAFCU Fireworks, following the 7:05 p.m. contest against the Dayton Dragons.
