Kane County struck first, scoring a run in the second inning. Austin Byler started the frame by lining a single into left field, out of the reach of Jake Yacinich. The next batter, Fernery Ozuna, smashed a double to left center, scoring Byler, putting the Cougars on top 1-0.

Bees' starting pitcher Ronnie Glenn retired the first two batters of the bottom of the third inning before Grant Heyman shot a triple into the right center field gap. Trevor Mitsui made it 2-0 in favor of Kane County by slapping a single into right, scoring Heyman.

The Cougars added another run in the sixth inning. After Heyman led off the inning with a single, Austin Byler doubled to right, scoring Heyman, upping Kane County's lead to 3-0.

The Bees got to Donatella in the seventh when Angelo Amendolare picked up the second hit of the game for the Bees, doubling to lead off the inning. Jared Walsh put the Bees on the board, sending a double to left, scoring Amendolare, cutting the Cougars lead to 3-1. After moving to third on a ground out, Walsh came home to score on a Alexi Rivera ground out, making the score 3-2. The Bees had the tying run on base in both the eighth and ninth, but could not capitalize, losing 3-2.

Kane County starter Justin Donatella (6-4) earned the win while Ronnie Glenn (1-6) was charged with the loss. Drew Muren (4) picked up the save. The Bees and the Cougars continue the series on Tuesday at noon. Jared Ruxer makes the start for the Bees against Sam McWilliams for Kane County.
