South Bend Sweeps Dayton with 11-1 Win

DAYTON, OH - The South Bend Cubs Sunday completed a four-game sweep of the Dayton Dragons with a 11-1 victory.

South Bend's offense didn't wait long to put pressure on the Dragons.

Carlos Sepulveda led off the game with a single and went to second base on a passed ball. Sepulveda scored when P.J. Higgins hit a soft line drive to right field to put South Bend in front 1-0. Eloy Jimenez followed with a bloop single to right center field to plate Higgins and give the Cubs a 2-0 advantage.

The Cubs, who have won five games in a row, scored three times in the second inning after the first two batters struck out.

Sepulveda added an RBI double scoring Flete who had walked. Higgins and Jimenez posted RBI singles to extend the advantage to 5-0.

South Bend's scoreless innings streak was snapped at 24 and two-thirds innings in the second inning when Kyle Miller allowed an run scoring single by Jose Duarte to cut the Cubs lead to 5-1.

Miller (3-1) earned the win as he set a professional career high with six strikeouts over five innings while allowing one run on three hits. The Cubs bullpen tossed four scoreless innings and have not allowed a run to Dayton in 12 games this year (37.1 innings)

Tyler Alamo belted his third home run of the year, a two-run shot, in the seventh to extend South Bend's lead to 8-1. Alamo added an RBI ground out in the ninth.

South Bend has now swept a pair of four-game series this year. But this was South Bend's first four game road sweep since May 29-June 1, 2015 at Lake County.

Dayton had not been swept at home since July 11-14, 2014 by West Michigan.

The South Bend Cubs are back home to take on the Lake County Captains at Four Winds Field Monday at 7:05pm. Adbert Alzolay (5-3, 4.15) takes the mound for South Bend. You can hear the game on 96.1fm WSBT tonight starting with pre game coverage at 6:50pm.
